Our Activities

The Old Cemetery is owned and managed by Southampton City Council.  Apart from being a burial ground, it is adjacent to Southampton Common, a designated Site of Special Scientific Interest.

NEWSFLASH!

October 2007:    FoSOC won the "Outstanding Commitment by a Voluntary Group"  Award given by the Southampton City Council, Parks and Open Spaces Dept.  

 

The Saturday volunteers display the award that their efforts won.

 

August 2007:  The Green Flag Award which Southampton Council has achieved for the City parks has now been awarded to the Common including The Old Cemetery.   Members of the Friends group were invited to contribute to the application for this award, and meet  the judges to highlight our involvement with the ongoing conservation work.

We organise regular walks through the Cemetery, some with historical themes and some with nature themes.
